Turning back here on this remote road to the headwaters of the Yellow River in Tibetan Qinghai would have been very disappointing. Our fearless driver took a chance and got stuck. This Chinese road crew working at 5000 plus metres pulled our vehicle out of the hole and we drove on to a viewpoint to where this sacred river source is viewed from. The monks at the monastery on the first lake into which the source-waters pours told us foreigners here were very rare . Making it up the hill over looking the source waters ( few vehicles get this far due to incessant rainfall and slippery muddy conditions) and then camping out with the monks eating soup and tsampa remains a highlight of all Tibetan experieneces – and one that would not have happened if we had a driver ( or crew) who feared getting stuck.

I love a quote that uses the word stuckness.

Thanks to you three and your drivers for being really intrepid and bringing these wonderful images to us.
