I love that yak, ‘garpo’ it’s name would be garpo or gartok except the monoglian equivalent for white face…and it woudl be individually appreciated …I appreciate it and so did Hillaire Belloc

As a friend to the children
    Commend me the Yak.
You will find it exactly the thing:
It will carry and fetch, you can ride on its back,
Or lead it about with a string.

The Tartar who dwells on the plains of Thibet
    (A desolate region of snow)
Has for centuries made it a nursery pet,
And surely the Tartar should know!
Then tell you papa where the Yak can be got,
And if he is awfully rich
He will buy you the creature—
    or else
    he will not.
    (I cannot be positive which.)

Animals often have no way of choosing how they live…only the ones who live in their natural habitat can do that..until humans move in and destroy it…
When I was young I thought that there would always be Gorillas in the mountains of Africa…now there are only 650 wild mountain gorillas left in the world…

  3. Poetic Universe Says:

Well said Marie and nice poem Jacqui – That yak is a stand in for the deadly donkey falling from the sky … revenge on humans for all those mountain Gorillas killed by habitat destruction…. though it is departing from being inspirational here. The quote is meant to be a reminder that we all have choice which could include protecting Gorillas a little better. I ate cheese produced by this Yak’s brethren – and camped in fields fertilised by its dung.
Maybe instead of trying so hard for our food to make us healthy and beautiful we need to shift our focus to caring for our food and making it healthy and beautiful – a nursery pet. Do i sound like I am on a mission?

  4. Marie Says:

Yes but a very good mission…we can all learn and choose the way we live hopefully to the benfit of others yet to be born.
